Ghost Push Virus: Over 1.4 Lakh Phones In India Were Infected


The company which claims to be the the 4th largest publisher of a pplications globally and it is the maker of CM Security and Clean Master apps, discovered a new virus called Ghost Push.  which is said to be infected 1,44,199 devices in India and 1.3 million  Android devices globally. According to Cheetah Mobile, the virus is being distributed through non-Google app stores or 3rd Party app stores and has affected 14,846 types of china phone and 3,658 brands. Cheetah Mobile Security Research Lab said that it is the most widespread and infectious virus seen till date.


Ghost Push Virus installs unwanted applications like ‘Times service’ or ‘Monkey test’ on the device. These apps cannot be removed easily even by doing a factory reset or using normal antivirus software. The virus slows down the system, drains the battery and consumes large amounts of Mobile data.

How The Virus Works:

CM (Cheetah Mobile) Security Research Lab said over 600,000 Android users have been affected in a single day. Till date,  Ghost Push virus is the largest reported attack on Android devices it has seen. So far, 39 apps containing the virus have been discovered.


Two days before Apple Inc. said it is cleaning up its iOS App Store to remove malicious iPhone and iPad programme.
